Saudi Arabia wants to host a major WWE Premium Live Event FKA Pay-Per-View

Per Mike Coppinger of sports media giant ESPN references a “strategic agreement” between Riyadh Season and the UFC will extend the partnership between the two sides, as announced by highly respected Turki Alalshikh, the chairman of Saudi Arabia’s General Entertainment Authority.

Alahshikh in a bullish move has not been shy about his desire to hold a major UFC

event in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. He's getting UFC Fight Night at the time of publication, but things can do change in the high stakes world of combat sports promotion. Alalshikh stated that an “enhancement” to Saudi Arabia’s agreement with WWE will be announced this month. Alalshikh notes that he desires to have Saudi Arabia host the Royal Rumble or WrestleMania.

“We will do big things with the UFC and TKO,” Alalshikh told ESPN.

WWE has a track record of at least one PLE in Saudi Arabia every year since 2018. The company merged with UFC to form TKO in September 2023.

As per local customers, women wrestlers are much more covered up that they are at U.S, Canadian, European, Japanese and Australian shows. WWE creative head Triple H has covered on the record the importance of respecting local customs numerous times over the years.

Silver: a possible long road down

Silver and gold recovered quickly. What's next?

Gold and silver have been enjoying a return to demand since early May, and buyers have stepped up in the last couple of days, bringing gold back above $2370 and silver back above $28.5.

Silver has recovered to the $28.0-28.8 area from where it reversed down in April after a few days of consolidation. This week's upward momentum revives the idea that the decline in the second half of April was a corrective pullback. The area of local lows in early May roughly coincides with the 61.8% pullback from the upside momentum from late February to the upper boundary of the consolidation area we discussed above.

This bullish scenario will be confirmed if the price consolidates above $28.8, which would open the way to the $33 area as a potential first stop. However, we need to remember that Silver has failed to do so for the past 11 years, with three significant episodes in 2020 and 2021 before the April test.

Gold is about half as far behind silver in terms of relative recovery momentum and has not yet been able to recoup all the losses from the 22 April price hit. However, we should consider that gold quotes have been periodically updating historical highs since February.

In gold, we can also consider the April retreat as a correction to the area of 76.4% of the growth impulse from the minimum close of the day in February to the maximum close in April. In this case, the growth target becomes the area of $2640 (161.8% of the initial rally).

At the same time, a further rise in the price of gold with high bond yields in developed countries, huge budget deficits in many countries and the need to support the economy makes one think that the upside potential is limited. Until gold and silver reach a new level, we doubt the success of a new attack on the highs and see the potential for a renewed decline.

Fox, Disney, Warner Bros Discovery sports venture expects 5 million subscribers in five years

The sports streaming venture formed by Walt Disney, Warner Bros Discovery and Fox Corp expects to have 5 million subscribers in its first five years, Fox CEO Lachlan Murdoch advised in March.

The companies last announced plans for the sports-centric service that is hoping to get younger viewers.

"We're running really hard and really fast to get the service up and running before the start of the college football season this year," Murdoch said at the Morgan Stanley Technology, Media and Telecom conference.

Pricing for the service — which would have rights to the National Football League, the National Basketball Association, Major League Baseball and college competitions — could be higher than what people have talked about, Murdoch added.

CNBC reported back February the yet-to-be-named service is expected to be priced at above $40 per month, adding the firms have identified an executive who would be named at a later date.

Murdoch said the companies will get paid on a per-subscriber basis and he does not have any concerns about regulatory hurdles about the joint venture.

The addressable market for the new venture is expected to be between 50 million and 60 million, Murdoch said, adding it is half of the television households in the United States which will be open to taking this new package.

The new entity will be jointly owned by the three media companies, with equal board representation, and agree to license their sports content on a non-exclusive basis, media reported in Feb, as media companies are betting on the sports-streaming service to drive subscriptions. (Wires/A.I)

Anya Taylor-Joy and Chris Hemsworth star in Academy Award-winning mastermind George Miller’s “Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga,” the much-anticipated return to the iconic dystopian world he created more than 30 years ago with the seminal “Mad Max” films.

Miller now turns the page again with an all-new original, standalone action adventure that will reveal the origins of the powerhouse character from the multiple Oscar-winning global smash “Mad Max: Fury Road.”

The new feature from Warner Bros. Pictures and Village Roadshow Pictures is produced by Miller and his longtime partner, Oscar-nominated producer Doug Mitchell (“Mad Max: Fury Road,” “Babe”), under their Australian-based Kennedy Miller Mitchell banner.

As the world fell, young Furiosa is snatched from the Green Place of Many Mothers and falls into the hands of a great Biker Horde led by the Warlord Dementus.

Sweeping through the Wasteland, they come across the Citadel presided over by The Immortan Joe. While the two Tyrants war for dominance, Furiosa must survive many trials as she puts together the means to find her way home. Taylor-Joy stars in the title role, and along with Hemsworth, the film also stars Alyla Browne and Tom Burke. Miller penned the script with “Mad Max: Fury Road” co-writer Nico Lathouris. Miller’s behind-the-scenes creative team includes first assistant director PJ Voeten and second unit director and stunt coordinator Guy Norris, director of photography Simon Duggan (“Hacksaw Ridge,” “The Great Gatsby”), composer Tom Holkenborg, sound designer Robert Mackenzie, editor Eliot Knapman, visual effects supervisor Andrew Jackson and colorist Eric Whipp.

Australian court lifts order blocking X on church stabbing video

An Australian court on Monday rejected a bid by the country's cyber safety regulator to extend a temporary order for Elon Musk-owned X to block videos of the stabbing of an Assyrian church bishop, which authorities had called a terrorist attack.

Federal Court judge Geoffrey Kennett said the application to extend the injunction granted last month had been refused. The reasons for the judgement will be released later, the judge said during a brief hearing.

The matter has been listed for a hearing on Wednesday.

The legal tussle has sparked heated exchanges between Musk and senior Australian officials including Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, who called Musk "an arrogant billionaire" for his objections to take down the video. Musk has posted memes criticising the regulatory order, describing it as censorship.

Other platforms, such as Meta, took down the content quickly when asked.

The Federal Court, Australia's second-highest court, last month upheld an order by the eSafety Commissioner asking X, formerly Twitter, to take down 65 posts containing footage of the bishop being knifed mid-sermon in Sydney on April 15, saying it showed explicit violence. A 16-year-old boy has been charged with a terrorism offence for the alleged attack.

Australian users have been blocked from viewing the posts but X has refused to remove them globally on the grounds that one country's rules should not control the internet.

The regulator told the court last week that geo-blocking Australians, the solution X offered, was ineffective because a quarter of the population used virtual private networks that disguised their locations.

Last week, Albanese's centre-left government announced it would hold a parliamentary inquiry to look into the negative impacts of social media, saying it has significant control over what Australians see online, with almost no scrutiny.

Ex-Las Vegas casino exec Sibella receives probation in illegal-bookie case

Former MGM Grand President Scott Sibella was sentenced to probation and ordered to pay a fine Wednesday afternoon in a Los Angeles courtroom for a single violation of the Bank Secrecy Act (BSA) in connection with a federal investigation of illegal bookmaker Wayne Nix. Sibella, who pleaded guilty Jan. 24 in U.S. District Court for the Central District of California before Judge Dolly M. Gee, was assessed a $9,500 fine. Mohegan out as Virgin Hotels Las Vegas casino manager by year’s end

Virgin Hotels Las Vegas announced Tuesday that the Connecticut-based tribal gaming operator Mohegan will transition out of its three-year role in managing the casino. The Bally’s casino at Medinah Temple in the River North neighborhood of the city reported $10.4 million in AGR, down from its peak of $11.1 million in March. While Bally’s revenue for the 2024 calendar year moved above $40 million, the $4.1 million in local taxes for the City of Chicago generated thus far is tracking to be well below the $35 million projected in mayor Brandon Johnson’s budget.

Second day of Culinary workers strike at Virgin Hotels Las Vegas winds down

Hospitality workers at an off-Strip casino continued their two-day strike Saturday, calling on their employer to agree to wage increases in the next five-year contract. Hundreds of Culinary Local 226 members — which represents about 700 servers, stewards, housekeepers and others — at Virgin Hotels walked off the job Friday to pressure the resort-casino into making a deal that accounts for inflation and other higher labor costs like peers on the Strip and throughout the region. Virgin is the last property in the resort corridor to settle its contract that ended June 1.

Hard Rock Casino Northern Indiana shows no signs of giving up its position as the state’s top earning casino nearly three years after its May 14, 2021, grand opening. Data released Friday by the Indiana Gaming Commission (IGC) show Hard Rock last month tallied more “win,” or revenue after paying successful bettors, than any of the 12 other commercial casinos in the Hoosier State for a 30th consecutive month. Hard Rock tallied $39.7 million in April win — a 1.6% increase compared to its April 2023 win of $39.1 million — even though this year’s calendar had one fewer April weekend.

Paul, Tyson, Taylor, and Serrano met face-to-face on May 13 at the iconic Apollo Theater in New York City to discuss the upcoming fight in an event hosted by renowned boxing journalist Ariel Helwani.

“Mike wanted this to be a pro fight,” Paul said during the press conference. “He wants the war. I respect him for stepping up and try to put an end to me.”

Tyson was praising of Paul’s character, but didn’t mince words when it came to the July 20 bout.

“I really like Jake a lot,” Tyson told the crowd, “But once he’s in the ring he has to fight like his life depends on it — because it will.”

Also during the conference, unified featherweigh champion Serrano spoke to the challenge of ascending three divisions to fight Taylor in a lightweight rematch, which requires her to gain about 14 pounds.

“Greatness requires sacrifice,” Serrano said. “I’m sacrificing my body to go up three divisions. My power is going to come with me.”

Taylor spoke to the rematch as well, noting that she has no plans to carry on the Serrano vs. Taylor rivalry after July 20. Their infamous 2022 bout at Madison Square Garden ended in a narrow split decision in Taylor’s favor, earning both athletes Sports Illustrated’s Fight of the Year and The Ring’s Event of the Year for 2022 honors.

Business Details On WrestleMania 41, Las Vegas

Much of the wrestling and entertainment world has now heard under the watercooler - WrestleMania is heading to Vegas, aka "Sin City".

Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority (LVCVA) approved a substantial $5 million payment to TKO's WWE to sponsor the event, 8 News Now reported.

Lisa Motley, VP of sports and special events for the LVCVA was optimistic about the show's prospects and return on investment.

“The dates of the event will occur over Easter weekend, which is a typically slow time for Las Vegas... We anticipate more than 180,000 WrestleMania fans will occupy 144,000 incremental room nights over that time period.”

Jack Dorsey has left the board of social networking service Bluesky, which he helped fund and popularize a year ago in the wake of regret over the sale of Twitter to Elon Musk.

The Twitter co-founder took to the Musk-owned platform, now rebranded X, to tout his new philanthropic grants to open internet protocols, which he described as “freedom technology.” He also added X to that class of tech, elaborating only to say that corporations can build upon open protocols too.

Dorsey whittled down the list of people he follows on X to just three: Musk, Edward Snowden and Stella Assange, wife of the imprisoned WikiLeaks publisher. It suggested an apparent warming of relations between X’s owner and Dorsey, who had posted on Bluesky a year ago that “it all went south” after Musk’s takeover and radical transformation of Twitter.

Bluesky is a network and protocol launched to pursue Dorsey’s platonic ideal for Twitter as a service without central control, and it opened to all interested users in February. The social service made a splash in its early days as a way to escape the upheaval at Twitter after Musk’s acquisition, though it has since been overshadowed by the launch of Meta Platforms Inc.’s Threads as the most viable alternative. Dorsey responded to a question on X as to whether he was still on the Bluesky board with a “no”.

Aussie stocks lifted on Wednesday on the back of a mining rally fuelled by bourse heavyweight BHP.

The Australian sharemarket lifted on Wednesday on the back of a mining rally, fuelled by bourse heavyweight BHP, and the federal budget’s big spend on critical minerals.

The benchmark ASX200 rose 0.35 per cent, or 26.9 points, to close at 7753.7, while the broader All Ordinaries index lifted 0.32 per cent, or 25.2 points, to finish at 8020.9.

Technology stocks climbed 0.56 per cent to 3050.5 points.

The Aussie dollar was up 0.22 per cent against the Greenback to buy US66.4c at the closing bell.

Eight of 11 industry sectors ended in the green, led by materials with a 1.19 per cent rise.

Behemoth BHP propelled the charge with a 2.18 per cent jump to $44.09 a share.

The miner, which accounts for about 10 per cent of the benchmark index, surged after takeover target Anglo American told investors it would break up and sell off parts of its vast operations to concentrate on copper, iron ore and crop nutrients.

Anglo’s Queensland coal operations, which sit adjacent to BHP’s Bowen Basin mines, are now up for sale.

Miners in the critical minerals space also boomed on the budget’s $13.7bn allocation for production tax credits for minerals set to underpin the green energy transition.

Renascor Resources soared 30 per cent to 13c, while Arafura Rare Earths jumped 5.41 per cent to 20c and Aeris Resources surged 7.41 per cent 29c.

Alongside the miners, IG market analyst Tony Sycamore said the trading day had lifted on some post-budget “relief” about Australia’s inflation outlook.

“As the debate around the federal budget’s impact on inflation heats up, it’s worth highlighting the Australian interest rate market is now pricing in a 10 per cent chance of a 25 basis point Reserve Bank of Australia rate cut at its board meeting on December 10, while retaining a 10 per cent chance of a 25 basis point RBA rate hike by September,” he said.

“The key takeaway here is that the rates market appears comfortable the budget struck the right balance between providing cost-of-living relief without inflaming inflationary concerns.

“There is a full 25 basis point rate cut priced in by next July.

“If you want to try and find the sensible middle ground, the bond market always has a pretty good read on things and we’ve got finally the re-emergence of a rate cut before year-end.

“And we haven’t seen that for quite some time, particularly after that quarter one inflation data was hotter a few weeks ago.”

The big banks presented a mixed picture, with Commonwealth Bank edging up 0.5 per cent to $119.93, but Westpac, NAB and ANZ all falling.

Westpac lost 0.9 per cent to $26.36, NAB fell 0.71 per cent to $33.75 and ANZ dropped 1.18 per cent to $27.68.

Wall Street recorded a positive session overnight on Tuesday, with the Dow Jones up 0.32 per cent, or 126 points, to 39,558, the S&P 500 index up 0.48 per cent to 5246 and the tech-heavy Nasdaq rising 0.75 per cent to 16,511.

In corporate news, oil and gas giant Santos revealed it would shed 200 jobs following a review of its operations in WA, the Northern Territory and East Timor.

The company dipped 0.13 per cent to $7.72 a share.

The takeover drama between ARN Media and Southern Cross Austereo continued, with SCA rejecting a rejigged offer after ARN’s initial bid collapsed over the weekend.

ARN dipped 0.58 per cent to 85c while SCA traded flat at 85c.

The top gainer on the ASX200 was IDP Education, which leapt 7 per cent to $17 a share, while the largest laggard was Healius Limited, which slumped nearly 6 per cent to $1.26.

EURUSD is trying to break the 5-month downtrend

The US dollar has been under relentless pressure since last Thursday, approaching more than one-month lows against the euro and the pound.

In general, we can identify a downward trend of the dollar against a basket of six developed country currencies since 16 April. This momentum has become more evident since the first days of May, although we have seen a couple of days of dollar strength.

Earlier this week, EURUSD quietly made an important technical breakout. In addition to accelerating the upward trend, over the past two days, the major pair has consolidated above the 50- and 200-day moving averages, which have almost merged into one since early April.

EURUSD has been adding for almost a month and has nearly fully recovered to local peaks in the first half of April. It would be a mistake to think that the dollar is easily rising and slowly retreating. If we take trading volumes into account, we see significant net selling of the dollar, as it takes much less liquidity to cause the pair to collapse over two days than to form a smooth upward trend over a month.

Thus, EURUSD has successfully withstood another test of the 1.05-1.06 support area, which has endured the onslaught of sellers since early 2023. The first significant target of this rise looks like the upper boundary of this range of the significant round level of 1.10. Or even higher - to 1.1150 with a new attempt to overcome the 200-week moving average, which has turned EURUSD three times since the beginning of 2022.

An even more ambitious but realistic task for the bulls could be a new attempt to consolidate above the 1.20-1.25 area, a crucial historical area that served as support between 2004-2014 and resistance for the last 10 years.

Confirmation of a bullish reversal in EURUSD will be a sustained growth above 1.0860 - the April highs area. This ability to rise further will break the downtrend that has been forming since the final days of last year.
